Yesterday evening, David O’Neill had the privilege of attending a special celebration at the Scottish Parliament, marking the 200th birthday of HMS Unicorn in Dundee. This remarkable occasion was recommended to him by Brigadier Andy Muddieman RM, Commander of the Royal Navy in the Devolved Nations of Scotland and Northern Ireland. HMS Unicorn holds a unique place in history as the oldest Royal Navy vessel in Scotland, and it was an honour to celebrate such a significant milestone.

The event, sponsored by Dundee MSP Mr. Michael Marra, was more than just a celebration of the past; it was an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations dedicated to preserving our naval heritage. He had the pleasure of meeting the team behind HMS Unicorn, as well as many other ship project teams who had gathered to honour this historic vessel.

One of the most exciting developments discussed during the evening was HMS Unicorn’s future. Plans are underway to recommission a former derelict dry dock, transforming it into her new home. This ambitious project represents a vital step in ensuring her preservation for future generations. Given that HMS Unicorn will be one of only two historic Royal Navy vessels in Scotland, the potential for collaboration between our projects is immense. Together, we envision exciting partnership opportunities that will strengthen our shared mission of maritime conservation.

David would like to extend his heartfelt thanks to Brigadier Muddieman for introducing him to the inspiring individuals and corporate interests who attended this event. His efforts have opened the door to future collaborations, and he is excited to explore the possibilities that lie ahead as we work to safeguard the legacy of these extraordinary ships.
